A Team We can be Proud Of

It's been a long time since I have posted. This hasn't been due to a lack of things to write about, but more about real life happening. None of that has caused me to change my focus from the team the Nationals are building, however.

Being a DC Sports Fan has not been easy, especially for one living in the Baltimore area as I do. As a die hard, burgundy and gold fan, I have had to endure too many days at work while some Raven fan jokes on my Skins. This year friends, things are going to change.

Before you laugh, I am not suggesting the Skins will be better than the Ravens. I am saying that this summer DC Fans will have the Nationals to be proud of. And the once proud Baltimore fans will have the Orioles. Anything can happen, but as of now I would be will to bet the rent money that the Nats will be in the playoff hunt this year. Whether they make it is another story.

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, he is a Baltimore guy and loves the Ravens. He hadn't really paid attention to the Nationals, but it bothered him to think the Nats could be close to being a team that is yearly in the hunt for a championship.

The question for the Nationals right now though is, "Do we sign Prince Fielder?" The thing is, they stand to win either way. With Prince in the lineup, Werth would definitely benefit and return to norm. Without Prince in the lineup the Nats still have room to add the prototype, lead-off, center fielder they have coveted since they have been in DC.

Not that they couldn't sign go after someone like that after signing Prince. It would just mean someone like Morse would be the odd man out. I would hate that, but i would then suggest trading "Beast Mode" for said prototype, lead-off, center fielder.

For me though, next year is all about Strasburg, Gonzalez, and Zimmerman. The Nationals will only be as good as these guys let them be. There is the chance these guys can become the most respected trio in baseball. On the other hand, they could have all already peaked and only get worse. The truth is most likely in the middle somewhere, hopefully closer to the respected side.

But for now, until he signs, the question will be "Do we sign Prince Fielder?" I think this will be the week that question will be answered. For a DC sports fan, signing Prince would be a great boost to morale.
